In 2022, Dorothy released Gifts from the Holy Ghost, which featured a revamped sound and spawned singles like “Black Sheep,” which put her on the map and introduced her to a whole new audience.
Fast forward to 2025, three years later- and Dorothy is back with The Way, building on that sound but taking things to a whole new level, spotlighting her faith but also creating a hard-rocking record that’s bound to take her to another level.
“I Come Alive” opens with an intro that showcases just how strong her voice is before kicking up into a memorable hard rock anthem, leading into one hell of a follow-up with “The Devil I Know” and lead single “Mud.”
It’s already clear at this point that this record is something special and it’s confirmed with “Tombstone Town,” which features Slash. This one reminds you of a stagecoach chase in the old, wild west and is a pure adrenaline rush.
“Bones” and “Unholy Water” slow things down a little bit before “Haunted House” takes back over with the standout track of the album. Lyrically and thematically, “Haunted House” is a grand slam. It’s catchy, memorable, rocks hard and has every intangible you need to be a massive hit. It’s artistically and creatively genius.
“Puttin’ Out the Fire” and “Superhuman” keep things going before “The Way” closes out the record in heavy fashion. While it’s purely a ballad, it’s still heavy in every way. The lyrics mixed with the piano just weigh on you and hit you hard, right in the gut.
The Way is a home run of a record. It’s southern rock personified, loaded with arena anthems and mixes throwback rock with a modern twist. Lyrically, this is Dorothy’s best work yet. Vocally, she’s at the top of her game and the album shows that in every avenue.
Every iconic band has that album- the album that stand out among the pack and is the one that fans remember them for when they’re long gone. The Way is that album for Dorothy.
