Saxon- Sacrifice review

by Reggie Edwards There were some amazing bands in the New Wave of British Metal back in the day. Some made larger-than-life careers in the US (Judas Priest) and some kept a good following but didn’t quite make that last leap. Saxon may be one of the best bands from that group that everyone doesn’t know. They’ve put out consistently impressive albums every cycle and always deliver. For some reason, though, they didn’t develop that household name some of the other bands did. Their latest release, Sacrifice, is a prime example of great metal from a great metal band. Leading in with a haunting tribal intro titled “Precession,” it’s clear from the beginning this is going to be one hell of a metal album. The rest of the record, not surprising in the least bit for Saxon, is an adrenaline-rushing, skull-crushing metal ride for the masses. The fact the core of this band has been together since the 70s and 80s and can still thrash better than half the metal bands around today is impressive. This record is filled with bludgeoning, kick-you-in-the-ass metal that you just can’t help but love. Rating: 9/10
