WWE: NXT Greatest Matches Vol. 1 DVD review

When WWE bought out WCW in 2001, their competition was gone and fans have been itching for that competition to return ever since. Little did they know it\’s been right under their nose for years with NXT- and it\’s within the same company. A few years ago, Triple H took FCW- WWE\’s developmental territory and transformed it into NXT- taking the NXT television show- which was basically a talent show- and turning it into a whole new promotion and the rest was history. Since then, WWE has signed some of the world\’s best and well-known stars to the NXT brand and put together one hell of a roster. For years, NXT has been pushing the WWE main roster to put out a better product on Raw and SmackDown and fans have been noticing. It\’s to the point that the major WWE PPV events tend to have an NXT PPV to accompany it that sells almost as well as the WWE events. To celebrate the success of NXT, WWE has released NXT Greatest Matches Vol. 1 on DVD and Blu Ray and it\’s a collection that you absolutely cannot go without if you\’re a wrestling fan. Rightly so, the disc starts with Seth Rollins vs. Big E (then-Langston) for the first-ever NXT Championship and ends with Bayley vs. Sasha Banks at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn for the NXT Women\’s Championship- which was a truly emotional match. Not only does the 3-disc collection feature some of the best matches you\’re going to see anywhere- but it also features interviews with some of NXT\’s top stars of all time- Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch, Finn Balor, Kevin Owens and more- discussing the impact NXT has had on their career. Owens discusses watching NXT when he was on the independent circuit and telling people he wanted to compete on NXT. Banks, Lynch, Bayley and Charlotte discusses the rise to prominence of the Women\’s Division and how much it means to them to see fans finally respecting WWE Women\’s wrestling. Banks gets emotional when she discusses the time when people saw the women\’s matches as “bathroom break” matches and fast forwarding to the present when the fans start “Women\’s Wrestling” chants. With matches from Cesaro, The Wyatt Family, Finn Balor, Sami Zayne, Kevin Owens, Bayley, Charlotte, Sahsa Banks, Becky Lynch and others, this is by far the best way to celebrate the success of NXT and we can only look forward to Volume 2. -Reggie Edwards
