Review: Devour The Day- S.O.A.R.

Devour The Day are back and their sophomore release, S.O.A.R. is set to blaze it\’s way up the rock charts.

Coming just a few years removed from their debut- Time & Pressure– which spawned numerous hits, the band is back and they prove time and time again that the sophomore slump is just a myth and a term given to the bands who just couldn\’t cut it the second time around.

S.O.A.R. is a record you have to listen to a few times to really appreciate and fully comprehend. There\’s just so much going on with this album and it\’s a musically complex one. The intro- also the title track- is a beautiful and haunting one that captures your attention and sucks you in, getting you ready for what\’s about to be unleashed upon you- but nothing can actually prepare you for that. You just have to let it happen- and damnit, you\’ll be glad you did.

There\’s a lot more electronics on S.O.A.R. and it\’s just beautiful. It\’s also not too over-the-top either- it\’s balanced very well. The rock and metal mixed with the electronics is a dynamic and dominant tandem that will take you offguard but also makes you feel right at home.

Mix that with the haunting lyrics and vocals of frontman Blake Allison and you\’ve got a home run of an album.

The album could be seen as a bit slow by some but also perfectly done by others- it just depends on your preference and what you really like but the album catches its stride quick and doesn\’t look back and the guys in Devour The Day should be damn proud of the record they\’ve put together and the art they\’ve created with S.O.A.R. It\’s the kind of kick in the gut that the rock world loves and thrives upon and, with this album, Devour The Day have proved that they\’re here to stay.
