Review: Cane Hill – Smile

\"CANEHILL\"Cane Hill has released their new album Smile, and you can say hello to your new not-so-guilty pleasure album. Combining a bunch of familiar musical influences to make an intense sound all their own, Cane Hill has found a balance that just works for them, and I think it’s a bit of a game changer. The single track off of the album (The New) Jesus is definitely a highlight from Smile. Not only does the song have an awesome music video to go with it, but it really gets stuck in your head. The vocal range of Elijah Witt is quite impressive throughout the album, so is the balance of electronic and metal. Fountain of Youth is a really fantastic song. The entire album is full of some pretty dark lyrics, and this song is no different. It has a really deep tone to it though, making it stand out from the rest. The closing track on the album Strange Candy has the same dark tone, but is a little bit less in-your-face as the rest of the songs on the album. It’s a pretty intense song overall. I definitely think this album is fantastic. Some of the songs seem to sound a bit too familiar at times, but overall it shows how talented these guys are and that they are able to display musically just how diverse they can be. Cane Hill is currently out on Vans Warped Tour so make sure to check out their set.
