Live: Rock Allegiance 2017

The third annual Monster Energy Rock Allegiance has come and gone and this year was one for the ages. With a location change to the BB&T Pavilion in Camden NJ fans were able to experience music across 3 stages, about a dozen different food places to accommodate any craving and a VIP area that was on an actual battleship.

The lineup this year was perfect for the festival being reduced to just one day and included heavy hitters such as Five Finger Death Punch, Rob Zombie, Mastodon and In This Moment. The festival also had some of the hottest up and coming bands such as Greta Van Fleet, Joyous Wolf, Biters and Radkey.

That being said here\’s a breakdown of the best performances of the day:

Radkey- This three-piece band from Missouri will blow your mind. Their sound is so unique and they\’re a ton of fun to watch on stage. Their hit “Dark Black Makeup” is sure to get stuck in your head. They were a solid choice to open the main stage for the day.

Steel Panther- For those of you that have never seen them, add them to your must see list. With hits like “Asian Hooker” how could it be a bad time. Frontman Michael Starr coming out with sunglasses that read “flash me” was probably the greatest thing ever.

Greta Van Fleet- This is one of the most impressive up and coming bands. The reaction that they got from the crowd was insane.  They played a flawless set including their hit “Highway Tune”.

Starset- This band is one of the best live bands out there right now in my opinion. Not only are they a lot of fun to watch but they sound exactly the same live as they do on their albums. They played hits such as “My Demons” and “Carnivore”. They played the smaller third stage but they pulled one of the biggest crowds of the day there.

Halestorm- Lzzy Hale sounded absolutely phenomenal during their set. She was energetic and all over the place. They played “Apocalyptic” and “Mayhem”.

Gojira- These guys closed out the second stage to a sold out crowd and thanks to some schedule changes were also given a longer set. They had really cool cannons that shot fog out into the crowd and they sounded amazing. When they played their hit “Stranded” the crowd went crazy.

Rob Zombie- This is one of the best performances I\’ve ever had the chance to see. Everyone in his band has their own unique personality that they bring to the stage that really gets the crowd going. He played all the songs fans wanted to see including his classic hits like “Living Dead Girl” and “Superbeast”.

Rock Allegiance is one of my personal favorites when it comes to festivals. Since it\’s a smaller festival you can almost always see every single band on your must see list.

I really enjoyed the venue change this year with the city skyline as a backdrop but it was a little bit of a stretch between the main stage and the second stage.  Other than that my fingers are crossed that Rock Allegiance will be returning to Camden NJ next year.
