Mayhem Festival is officially underway, featuring one of the most star-studded lineups in the festival’s four-year existence. This year’s festival lineup boasts Slipknot, Slayer, Motorhead, Anthrax, The Devil Wears Prada, As I Lay Dying, Asking Alexandria, Whitechapel, I The Breather, Upon A Burning Body, Betraying The Maryrs and Dirtfedd.

We had a chance to sit down with Anthrax’s Rob Caggiano a few weeks before the tour started to talk about the band’s latest release, Worship Music, the return of frontman Joey Belladonna, the band’s year so far and what we can expect from the legendary thrash metal band on this year’s Mayhem Festival.

Caggiano discussed how the band had been working on material for Worship Music for awhile before Belladonna made his return to the band and that when the frontman entered the process everything just came together so well.

He also talked about why the band chose to play the smaller Jagermeister Stage and that fans who are coming to this year’s Mayhem Festival can expect one thing from Anthrax.

“An over-the-top, kick-ass show,” Caggiano said. “We’re gonna do what we do no matter where we are, whether it’s Jagermeister Stage or Rock on the Range or whatever so it’s gonna be a killer Anthrax show.”
